One more barrier...
The last time I was 84 kilos, was the summer of 2000. That feels like a really long time ago. From there, I ballooned upto 96 kilos somewhere around mid-2004.
I got serious about my weight around this time last year. I started out with fairly benign 1km jogs and then switched to swimming 1.5 kms a day (my favourite exercise!) during the summer. I was about 93kgs when I started swimming. By October - the end of the swimming season - I was down to 89 kgs. I started 2009 year thinking I'd hit 85kgs and that'd be good enough. Now, I'm 84.5 and feel I can hit (and stay at) 80 by the end of May...
That's thanks to a good half-hour jog every morning that really sets me up for the rest of the day. It's better than coffee. In fact, if I miss my run, I usually end up feeling crabby and bloated for the rest of the day. No, really!
And today, I broke another barrier - 5kms - my longest jog yet (that's not counting the 8km Terry Fox run in November 2005, which took me 80 minutes to complete. I have to say, I only finished that run because Adam was such a great sport and gave me company, at my horrendous pace, right through).
This time, it took me 30 minutes to do those 5 kms and I didn't feel any strain. Just a lovely exertion that sends all those endorphins flowing. The goal is to hit 6 kms in 35 minutes by the end of May and repeat it every alternate day. Working at it!
