Bats in the Belfry

Define irony....

I buy most of my books online and pay most of my bills online... So I reckoned I'd certainly be able to pay bills for my new internet connection online. After all, BSNL is an 'internet service provider'.

Guess what. I can't pay my internet bills online! BSNL doesn't offer that service to subscribers in Noida! Now, I'm a week overdue on the bill. I've been spoiled by the internet. I really need to figure out how to do all this bill-payment stuff 20th-century style - standing in line and all that.

Another incident. I go upstairs to our stationary department to ask for a new pen as the old one had run out. The regular guy isn't around. Some peon at the desk hands me a requisition slip that I need to fill out. I take it and look back at him, expecting him to understand why I'm not yet filling it up. First, he stares at me blankly. Then he looks at me as if I mean to do him harm. Then it hits him - "Oh! You came here because you needed a pen! Sorry! Here's mine".

  • Hey, its a stationAry department. So, how can they give you a pen? And as an aside, seeking a pen in a 21st century media company in the internet age is stranger than fiction!
