Uprooted..
Just had a heart-rending meeting with a palestinian refugee. His parents fled haifa after the 1948 arab israeli war and settled in baghdad. For nearly sixty years, they lived a life of relative ease - although without citizenship.
Then came the invasion. After saddam fell, the militia began to target palestinian refugees, whom they perceived as being outsiders who were favoured by saddam. Jamal, my interviewee, saw his eldest son kidnapped and returned only after paying them $10000.
He's now in india with his family, and says he has no home, no identity and no future. Now, he lives and struggles for resettlement only so that his wife and three sons may live in a safe country.
