Decentralization as a counter to systems disruption
The speed at which the US air force demolished Iraq's ability to function is frightening.
In it there are two lessons. Iraq's telecom networks were highly decentralized and required constant targeting by US aircraft. Iraq's electric grid wasn't and it went down without a whimper.
I'm going to rush through the logic here, so bear with me.
In short, power grids must be built like telecom networks to avoid large-scale, war time disruption. They must be decentralized enough so that a strike on one power generating unit doesn't knock down the whole grid.
Only one current technology is capable of that level of decentralisation.. Solar power.
India's telecom networks are already highly decentralized and mobile. It's time we did the same to our power network. Solar power and its contribution to energy security just went to a whole new level!
